Project Overview
I was BHE’s (now Panalgo) first Product Designer, which had some great challenges, working with some very skilled teammates. The BHE “Instant Health Data” platform combines real-world data with machine learning. These analytics would be used by Data Scientists to build medical studies. In my role, my main concentration was:
Working closely with Data Engineers and senior management to design new product features and workflows.
Gather customer feedback to customize the user’s needs, by designing clear and consumable UI elements and patterns.
Revise pre-existing designs, using current design trends and best practices.
Product Improvements
BHE’s IHD platform would have continuous improvements and enhanced feature releases throughout a fiscal year. The platform would also have 1-2 major releases a year, fueled by customer feedback and usability interviews. During these feedback sessions, Data Engineers would quickly whiteboard the conversation. Often the team would play the “Whose Handwriting is Worse” game. It was my job to quickly re-draft all of these whiteboard sessions, and use them for the post-interview meeting, as well as the beginning step of the prototype.

Results
It was great being a part of numerous product improvements, big or small, driven by customer feedback. In addition to the numerous successful releases, it was great to design a new dark mode, which became the official default view of the platform.
For personal achievements, I did find it very rewarding to decipher incoming metrics from Data Scientists, and turn that into clear, consumable UI. I was definitely not designing this product for myself, so I had to approach note-taking differently, often drawing my observations.
